Virtual wellness is the new normal. And sooner or later, it has to be adopted. Most people have become more flexible with the remote work lifestyle. They are seeking ways to stay fit and healthy from the comfort of their home aka virtual classes. But, conducting these classes and engaging your clients meaningfully are two different sides of virtual fitness.
Hence, here are 10 tips for all the fitness instructors out there to conduct their client’s workouts and engage them in these training sessions in the best way possible:
Before the class: Be mindful of the setup
Space and lighting are two of the most important factors in conducting memorable virtual sessions. A room with decent acoustics and natural light works great. But, if you can go with a natural environment like a garden or a backyard, that’s a win-win!
Having a clean space with good lighting creates a positive impact. This gives a good user experience to your clients because they have clear visual access to you and your body movements.
Placing your camera in alignment with the frame that shows your instructions is the next thing to take care of. Your clients could be using smaller devices like a tablet or a phone, hence, it is important to center align the camera and keep it at the eye level from your default position.
Music has always been a significant part of workouts for years. Different types of music help in fuelling the energy to perform different workouts. So, determine your music needs to your area of fitness and have a playlist ready before your clients join.
During the class: Engage with your clients
Having a registration process in place ensures the entry of people who genuinely want to make use of your services. Refrain from sharing the zoom link on public platforms or your website.
Make the link available to people in your service group, your email list, or directly to your clients as they join you via the 360Wellness app.
Once the setup is ready, log in at least 10 minutes before time. Use this time to check your connection, sound and visuals. Have a little “welcome card list” prepared to share as your clients join. This list can include basic rules to follow during the class. Break the ice by greeting everyone as they join.
To engage your clients make your workout sessions a two-way process. Give your introduction and quickly run them through a brief of what they can expect from the class. Dedicate some time in the beginning to know your clients and understand what they are expecting from you as their trainer in the long run.
Virtual sessions are tricky. Make sure to have cues and signs that can signal your clients to act accordingly. Check on the participants now and then to ensure they are perfectly following you.
Many people will prefer to not turn on their video. But, you have to be strict about it and ask them to turn their video on. This will make it a little easier for you to see how they are following the instructions.
Do not have a virtual background as they can cut your body movements and mess with the flow of the workout. You can, however, add a watermark or logo on the screen to showcase your branding.
As an instructor, you would easily get annoyed if you have interruptions every time someone joins. To keep your sessions interruption-free, make sure you mute all the participants. You can also use the security icon to enable waiting rooms for new people joining the session, lock the meeting after you’ve started and disable screen sharing from other participants.
You can unmute periodically to check in on your clients and encourage interaction.
Recording the session is an important step to build trust with your clients. Because, even if people register for the class, there is a possibility that some of them might miss it owing to different reasons.
You can record the session locally on your laptop. Make sure to publish the active speaker (your) view in the recording.
After the class: Make them return
As you proceed, unmute and engage with your clients for a few minutes before you end the session. Give them individual feedbacks and ask them about their experience with you. You can also create polls on zoom and ask them to rate their workout experience.
Building a personal community and creating a personal brand is not just about the work aspect. Initiating conversations beyond work is equally important to build motivation and momentum. Allow your clients to know you as a person and take a step forward to know them more than your clients. Use the 360Wellness social wall in the app to interact with your clients and other fitness enthusiasts.
